Imola, Italy: (World View Media, Reuters)
Formula One driver Pierre Gasly jumped into the AlphaTauri team’s new car at Imola, along with debuting team mate Yuki Tsunoda, and got to try it out for the first time.
The ‘AT02’ is described by AlphaTauri as ‘an evolution’ of its previous ‘AT01’, ‘using the same chassis as set out in the 2021 technical regulations’.
The team said it had ‘concentrated on aerodynamic developments and the suspension, as well as improving integration of the power unit, suspension, gearbox and electronic systems’.
Gasly, who won in Monza last season, said the team is evolving in ‘the right direction’, while his Japanese team mate, Tsunoda, who replace Daniil Kvyat, is ‘excited’ but know the upcoming F1 season will be ‘hard work’.
AlphaTauri will be aiming to improve on last season’s seventh place finish in the Constructors Championship.
French racer Gasly will also want to place higher than his tenth-place finish in the drivers’ standings.
The Formula One season starts in Bahrain on March 28.
